Amarasekara Sets Long Jump School Record at Mountain T’s Invite

Flagstaff, AZ – A small contingency of four multi-eventers represented the UC Riverside Track and Field team at the NAU Mountain T's Invitational this weekend.
In the women's pentathlon, sophomore Didi Amarasekara set a new school record in the indoor long jump with a mark of 5.87m (19'3), narrowly eclipsing the former record set by Jorden O'Neal in 2016. Amarasekara placed first in the final two events to win the pentathlon with a score of 3701. Her score was 6 points shy of Danielle Littleton's school record of 3707 set in 2015.
Senior Tayler Fleming and freshman Seline Schinke both completed parts of the pentathlon, with Fleming winning the shot put.
Aidan Olvera was the sole competitor for UC Riverside in the men's heptathlon. He placed second in the pole vault among Div 1 athletes with a mark of 12'11.50 and tied for 8th overall in the heptathlon with a final score of 3771.
Up next for the Highlanders is the UW Husky Classic and the UNM Don Kirby Invitational contested next weekend, Feb. 9-10.
