Women's Volleyball Drops Three Set Match at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif.- Saturday night marked a loss for the UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team (6-12, 1-6)Â as the Highlanders fell 3-0 on the road to host UC Irvine (12-7, 6-1).
Freshmen Nailah Jones and Christina Escamilla headed the Highlander attack once again smashing 11 kills each and sophomore Yuliya Ushakova showed off her versatility notching seven kills and a team-best five blocks.
The Eaters got out to a quick start taking the 1st set 25-13, but the Highlanders would come alive down 1-0,
UCR would comeback from down 15-13 to take an 18-15 lead with five straight points.The two teams would then trade off scores until UCI found the final four points to claim the 2nd set 25-22.
The 3rd set would be a similar story as UC Riverside put together a run to take a lead on three different occasions but could not close it out as the Anteaters would claim three of the last four points to take the final set 25-22.
Senior Chelsea Doyle and sophomore Nicole Rodriguez were bright spots on the day for the Highlanders as Doyle registered a team-high 27 assists and Rodriguez led the defense with 15 digs.
The Highlanders now return home to face Hawaii Friday night.Â
