Misfeldt Breaks All-Time Wins Record; Softball Shuts Out Stanford and Grand Canyon

Cathedral City, CA - The UC Riverside Softball Team (6-3) has gotten out to a 3-0 start in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this weekend after shutting out Stanford (4-5) 2-0 and Grand Canyon (3-6) 1-0 Sunday morning.

The Highlanders have now shutout 5 opponents in 9 games this season, including a pair of 10-0 wins. Senior pitcher Tayler Misfeldt earned her third shutout win of the year against Stanford, breaking the UCR all-time wins record in the process.

STANFORD
The Highlanders started off the day with a 2-0 over the Stanford Cardinal behind another stellar performance from the circle by Misfeldt (4-1). The senior only allowed 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 6. Misfeldt picked up her 41st career win, surpassing Tracey Webber (1984-87) for most wins all-time in program history.

UCR got on the board in the 4th inning as freshman left fielder Seanna Garewal hit her first career home run to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. The team would take a 2-0 lead in the 7th inning as sophomore Hannah Rodriguez hit a double down the left field line to drive in senior Jenna Curtan.

GRAND CANYON
The Highlanders would grab their 2nd win of the day in a 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon.

Freshman pitcher Hailey Dolcini earned her first career win as a Highlander in shutout fashion. She only allowed 2 hits and 2 walks on the day, while striking out 6 batters.

UCR got on the board in the bottom of the 1st freshman Sarah Parten singled to left-field to score Curtan from 3rd base. This would be the only run scored in the game by either team to give the Highlanders a 1-0 win.

The Highlanders will wrap up the Mary Nutter Classic Monday afternoon with another double header featuring Sacramento State and Cal. The matchup with Sacramento State is set for 9 AM in Cathedral City, CA.
