Riverside, CA – The UC Riverside Baseball Team held its annual alumni game on January 27, bringing in over 60 former players and welcoming many more to the stands at Riverside Sports Complex.
The alumni got out to a solid start, especially on the defensive end, as they held the current Highlanders scoreless and without a hit through two innings. However, the 2018 squad would scratch for the first time in the third, courtesy of a Dylan Orick run off a sac fly from Anthony Lepre.
Later in the third, the young Highlanders extended to a 3-0 lead with a two-run single by Colby Schultz, scoring runs from Nathan Webb and Justin Mannens.
The alumni would scratch for the first time in the top of the 5th, but a relentless offensive surge down the stretch eventually saw the 2018 Highlanders prevail in a dominant 15-2 victory.
