Riverside, Calif.— The UC Riverside Women's Tennis Team defeated Drake Friday afternoon for its 2nd straight win. The Highlanders took two doubles matches and three singles matches to to edge out the Bulldogs.
In the doubles round, Drake took the first win on court two, but UCR would quickly ice the match as the duo of Tracy Van and Natalie Penner took a 6-2 win on court three. The doubles point came down to court one where the team of Tia Elpusan and Sara Khattab defeated their opponents 7-6 to put UCR up 1-0. Elpusan and Khattab have now won five straight doubles matches.
On the singles side the Highlanders were the first off the court on six as Tamilla Vaksman defeated her opponent in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3. Elpusan would put UCR in a position to clinch the match with a 6-2, 6-4 on court two, but Drake would take a match on five to get on the board for the first time.
After dropping the first set 5-7, Van grinded out two dominant wins in the next two sets to seal the match for the Highlanders with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
Tia Elpusan has been perfect UCR's last three matches going 3-0 on court one doubles and 3-0 on court two singles.
The Highlanders are back on the courts for their final home match on Wednesday, April 4th at 1:30 PM when the team hosts Westmont College.
