Highlanders Defeated by San Diego in Final Game of Home Stand

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside (13-14, 3-3) couldn't slow down San Diego (16-17, 6-6) in the final game of a ten-game home stand Tuesday night at The Plex, falling by a final score of 11-2.

Shortstop Colby Schultz and outfielder Cole Pofek were the two Highlanders to round the bases. Schultz got things started by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first, tying the game at 1-1.

Pofek's subsequent run would have to wait until the seventh, when he reached first on a single through the right side. Several batters later, He would go on to score thanks to a similarly struck base hit by Dylan Orick.

Pofek ended the day with 2-of-5 with nearly half of the Highlanders' five hits. Both of the freshman's hits which were the first of his career.

Unfortunately for the Highlanders, they were unable to keep pace with a hot Torero offense, which put up at least one run in six innings, highlighted by a four-run top of the fifth.

Orick's single was also the second hit of his freshman season, coming four days after his first against CSUN. He was one of three Highlanders with one hit on the day – sophomore Connor Cannon and senior Cody Sporrer were the others.

Up next for UC Riverside is a road conference-opening series against Hawai'i, this Friday through Sunday, April 13-15.
