Men's Tennis Breaks Program Wins Record in 7-0 Sweep of Hope International

Riverside, Calif.- The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team (15-14) broke the program's single season wins record Wednesday morning in a 7-0 sweep over Hope International. The Highlanders earned their 15th dual match victory of the 2017-2018 season, which is the most in the Division I era.

This match was both historic and dominant for UCR as the team won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in straight sets to earn its seventh sweep of the season.

In doubles play both the teams of Nabil Abdallah/Anderson Ju and Kyle McCann/Filip Engstrom took 6-0 victories on courts three and two, respectively. The freshman duo of Pawel Jankowiak and Vignesh Subramanyan added a 6-3 win on court one.

On the singles side, Subramanyan and Engstrom added convincing wins on the lower courts. On court five, Engstrom downed Gabriel Bazertti in straight sets of 6-1, 6-1 and Subramanyan won every game in his match on court six defeating Jayke Ancheta 6-0, 6-0. Subramanyan now has 20 singles wins in his first year for the Highlanders.

McCann would be the clincher for UCR dropping Sergio Romero in straight sets of 6-2, 6-0 on court three and Abdallah added his 20th singles win of the season with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Antoine Voisin on court four.

The Highlanders will now hit the road for a Friday match with conference foe UC Irvine. The match is set to start at 1:00 PM in Irvine, CA.
