Men's Golf Grabs 8th at Big West Championship

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif.— Tuesday afternoon, UC Riverside Men's Golf Team took a 7th place finish at the Big West Conference Championship shooting an 885 (+21) as a team over three rounds at the Industry Hills Golf Club. Senior Brandon Tsujimoto lead the way for the Highlanders tying for 26th individually with a UCR best 222 (+6) in the team's final competition of the 2017-2018 season.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

Three Highlanders tied for the best round on the team as Tsujimoto (Rd. 2), Michael Wong (Rd. 1), and Andrew Spilman (Rd. 3) each registered a 70 in the tournament.

UCR made the most of the Par 5's shooting -22 as a team with an 4.63 average. This feat ranked 4th in the tournament as a team. On the individual side, Matt Lutz had the 5th best showing with a 4.42 average that earned him a -7 mark. Lutz also lead the way on the Par 3's shooting +2 with a strong 3.17 average to earn 10th in that category.

The Highlanders added 48 birdies on the weekend which was the 5th best by any team.

Tsujimoto notched the 8th most pars in the tournament with 35 and Wong had a Highlander best 12 birdies, which ranked 9th. Andrew Spilman and Lutz each added an eagle.

With this tournament in the books, seniors Brandon Tsujimoto, Matt Lutz, Andre Vu, and Luke Park have played their final team tournament with UC Riverside.
