Softball Sweeps UCSB with a Senior Day Run-Rule Shutout

RIVERSIDE, Calif.— The final home game for the UC Riverside Softball Team (32-20, 9-9) was one to remember as the Highlanders routed UC Santa Barbara (18-33, 5-12) 14-0, the team's biggest deficit all season. UCR ended the shutout in five innings run-ruling the Gauchos on Senior Day for the team's 5th straight win. After sweeping UCSB, the 2018 Highlander graduating class was honored as seniors Chelsey Holley, Jenae Lockwood, Tayler Misfeldt, and Jenna Curtan have now played their final game at Amy S. Harrison Field.

Pitcher Tayler Misfeldt (17-10) took circle for the final time at home in game three of this series and did not disappoint tossing 4.1 innings and only allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out two. The senior picked up her 17th win of the season and extended her All-Time career record to 54.

UCR continued its offensive onslaught scoring runs in every inning including six in the 3rd to take a 10-0 lead and then four more in the 4th to seal the 14-0 victory. The Highlanders even batted around a few times as many players made four plate appearances in just four innings of work.

Junior Hannah Rodriguez lead the way going 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI and sophomore Danielle Ortega added three RBI of her own on a bases-loaded triple.

The seniors showed off in their final home game going a combined 5-for-7 with two RBI and four runs.

The Highlanders will be back in action this Friday as UCR wraps up the regular season at Cal State Fullerton.
