POCATELLO, ID.— The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball team (4-1) opened up the Idaho State Invitational Friday outscoring its opponents 6-2. The Highlanders began the day with 3-0 sweep of host Idaho State (2-4) and ended it with a 5th set victory to defeat Wisconsin-Milwaukee (0-6) 3-2.
UCR is now 4-1 on the year and has already swept two opponents.
IDAHO STATE
The Highlanders ended the match with the Bengals early downing the tourney host in three straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-21.
UCR showed off its offensive efficiency early in the match putting up a .500 mark on the attack. The team would finish the match winning the percentage battle over ISU .371 to .290.
Senior outside hitter Kaiulani Ahuna continued her dominance with 18 kills and senior setter Chelsea Doyle lead the Highlanders with 40 assists. Junior Reilly Bosworth added to the UCR scoreboard with nine kills off of just 11 attempts.
WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE
The matchup with the Panthers was a closer contest for the Highlanders as the match came down to a two-point win in the 5th set for UCR.
UC Riverside took the first two sets of the match 25-20 and 26-24, but the Panthers would answer with two of their own to force a decider.
The 5th set was tied at 9-9 before the Highlanders went on a 4-1 run and closed out the match with a 15-13 win.
Ahuna again led the attack with a match-best 23 kills and Doyle set up her teammates all afternoon adding 48 assists. Freshman outside hitter Marissa Holt added 15 kills of her own setting a new career high in first season.
UC Riverside will close out the Idaho State Invitational Saturday morning facing Boise State at 9:00 AM.
