Ahuna Leads the Highlanders in Another Record Breaking Match; Women's Volleyball Downs Idaho 3-2

FULLERTON, Calif.— The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team (5-5) opened up the Titan Tournament Friday evening defeating Idaho in a five-set thriller after trailing 2-1. Senior Kaiulani Ahuna would again make the Highlander history book breaking her own personal and Division I record, set just over three weeks ago, with a 34 kill performance.

A four match skid was ended by the Highlanders in a match where four points was the biggest set deficit.

Both teams battled in the 1st set as the Highlanders would tie the opener at 24-24 before the Vandals grabbed a 1-0 lead taking the set 26-24. UCR would quickly respond taking the 2nd 25-22 after winning the kill battle over Idaho 17-10.

Iced at 1-1, the Vandals would again find momentum towards the end of the set to take the 3rd 25-22 and put the Highlanders in a must-win situation. UC Riverside would rise to the occasion going on a 7-0 run to kick off the 4th set and the team never looked back forcing a 5th set decider with a 25-21 win.

The 5th set went back and forth until the Highlanders found themselves down 11-10 and scored three straight to take a 13-11 lead that they would turn into a 15-13 victory. This marks just the 2nd 5 set win for UCR so far this season.

Ahuna's 34 kills is 2nd most by any Highlander in program history and such a feat has not been accomplished since Janna Stern in 1998. It is the third time that she has made the UC Riverside record book in the team's 10 matches.

Freshman Nailah Jones added double digit kills as well smashing 11 to help her Highlanders to victory. Senior Chelsea Doyle showed off her versatility with a match-best 61 assists and 18 digs, which ranked 2nd in the Highlander lineup.

UC Riverside will finish off the Titan Tournament tomorrow morning matching up with San Francisco at 11:00 AM.
