RIVERSIDE, Calif.— The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team (9-5, 0-2) fell 3-1 Friday night at home to UC Santa Barbara (5-8, 1-1) in the Highlanders' second conference match of the season.
The Gauchos got out to a quick start taking the 1st set 25-21 in a battle where both teams traded off runs until they were iced at 21-21. UCSB would put together a final 4-0 run to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
The 2nd set was all Highlanders as UCR scored five straight to go up 16-11. Behind a combined seven kills from freshman Nailah Jones and junior Reilly Bosworth, the Highlanders would close out the set 25-19 to tie the match at 1-1.
UCSB would take the 3rd set 25-21, but the final score does not display the immense efforts by UCR who found itself down 20-9 before taking 12 of the final 16 points to keep the Gauchos honest.
Santa Barbara would end the match in the 4th set grabbing the final five points of the match.
Jones was a true bright spot on the day for UC Riverside as the freshman notched her 7th straight match with double-digit kills and set a new career high with 20. Bosworth and sophomore Yuliya Ushakova both added seven of their own.
Sophomore Nicole Reodriguez led the Highlander defense with 21 digs and senior Chelsea Doyle found her teammates all night with a team-best 36 assists.
