RIVERSIDE, Calif.— The UC Riverside Women's Volleyball Team dropped a home match 3-0 to No. 15 Cal Poly Saturday night, despite immense efforts in the 1st set of play.
The match opened in a battle with an exciting 1st set that featured six lead chanes and several ties. Both teams traded off points until they met at 20-20 and the Mustangs would score three straight to take a lead and eventually the set 25-23. The Highlanders would get the best of the kill battle in the 1st 16-12.
The final two sets would be all Mustangs as they took the match 3-0 after besting the Highlanders 25-11 and 25-14.
Sophomore Yuliya Ushakova led the Highlander attack grabbing nine kills and freshman Nailah Jones followed just behind her with seven of her own.
Sophomore Nicole Rodriguez and Chelsea Doyle split the defensive efforts picking up 11 and 10 digs, respectively. Doyle also added a team-high 23 assists.
The Highlanders will now hit the road as they will face Hawaii next Saturday at 10:00 PM PST. Live streaming will be available on BigWest.TV.
