Women's Soccer Looking for First Conference Win

RIVERSIDE—The UC Riverside Women's soccer team (2-10-1, 0-2 Big West) hopes to find its first conference win of the season this Sunday, when they take on the Cal State Fullerton Titans. Despite the slow start to conference season, the Highlanders have been aggressive and attentive in this week's training and are hoping to see the payoff from their efforts.

The Highlanders have had some difficulty finding the back of the net, with only six on the season, in 13 games. However, the six goals have come from 5 different players including two from junior Alexis Vera.

On the defensive end, redshirt senior Anne Bailey, and freshman Caela Kaio have split time between the posts. The Highlanders have allowed twenty-one goals this season and have struggled to find some consistency on the defensive end.

Nonetheless, the Highlanders are looking to regroup going in their singular game of the weekend against CSUF.

Scouting the Titans
The Titans (9-2-1, 2-0 Big West) have found their stride after a difficult 2018 conference season, in which they finished last place. Their early conference success now sees them atop the conference standings, tied with UCSB and Hawaii with a 2-0 record.

The offense of the Titans has been absolutely dominant, led by senior Atlanta Primus, who leads the conference in goals with eight, along with teammate Maddie Bennett. CSUF as a team, also leads the conference in goals (27) and assists (32).

Defensively, CSUF is led by goalkeeper Noa Schumacher, she currently has a goals against average of 1.27 per game to go along with three shutouts on the season.

Keeping the Streak Alive
The last two season the Highlanders have found success against the Titans, going 2-0 over their last two matchups. UC Riverside will be facing a dominant team in Titans, but the great need for the Highlanders to find a victory and gain some footing in the conference race requires their ferocity. It should be an interesting match at UCR Soccer Stadium this Sunday October 13th, at 7 PM.
