Men's Basketball Earns Fourth Straight Win Downing SIUE 69-51

RIVERSIDE— The four game home stand for the UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team (6-2) payed off tremendously as the Highlanders dominated Southern Illinois Edwardsville (2-6) 69-51 to earn their fourth straight victory and protect their undefeated home record. Senior graduate student Khyber Kabellis saw his best game yet in blue and gold posting season highs in all three major categories with 11 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

The two teams traded punches to start until a pair of back-to-back threes from senior Dikymbe Martin, who ended with nine points, gave UCR the momentum it needed as the Highlanders took a 35-27 lead into the half. The second period was all UC Riverside as the team stretched its lead out to as much as 18 points and held the Cougars to just 24 second half points off of 37.5% shooting.

UCR saw tremendous contributions from its bench, which totaled 37 points, and made the most of the Cougars' mistakes scoring 20 points off of SIUE turnovers. Despite five different Highlanders combining to nail 11 threes, the team also outscored the Cougars 26-20 in the paint and dominated the rebound battle 33-20.

Sophomore Callum McRae received extra attention tonight defensively and still managed to make it out with four points, six rebounds, and two assists. Junior Dominick Pickett added nine points, five rebounds, and a pair of assists and sophomore Dragan Elkaz continued his hot shooting going four-for-seven with three triples for a total of 11 points off the bench.

The team will now hit the road down the 91 Freeway and test its four-game win streak in the Crosstown Showdown at CBU. Tip off is set for 7 PM on Wednesday, December 6th.
