Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Cal State Fullerton

RIVERSIDE, Calif.- After a week off from competition, the UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team returned to the SRC Arena to face Cal State Fullerton for the second time, and again the Titans would come out on top as the Highlanders fell 77-54.

The Highlanders' leading scorer, junior Dikymbe Martin got out to a quick start scoring the team's first 10 points in just under five minutes hitting on 4-of-4 shots, two of which came from beyond the arc. He would end the first half with 14 points, two rebounds, and two assists.

Behind a well executed half-court defense, UCR would hold the Titans to a poor shooting percentage through the first 10 minutes, but Fullerton found its stride in the transition game pushing the ball up the court for fast-break layups. The Highlanders led for most of the first half until both teams were iced at 21-21. From there the Titans would close out the half on a 16-7 run to hit the locker rooms up 37-28.

The second half was an uphill battle for UC Riverside and the team was never able to overcome the Titan's first half lead. The Highlander defense had its moments in the forcing bad Titan shots and turnovers, but a few heavy scoring droughts would give Fullerton the momentum needed to close out the game 77-54.

Freshman Zac Watson was a bright spot for UCR finishing with 13 points, 11 of which came in the second half, on 6-of-7 shooting to go along with seven boards, a steal, and a thunderous dunk. Martin ended with 16 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The Highlanders will look to bounce back next Thursday as the team hosts UC Santa Barbara.
