Men's Tennis Edged Out 4-3 by Navy

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The Highlanders had their four-match win streak snapped Tuesday afternoon as the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team fell 4-3 to visiting Navy. After falling 3-0, UCR would bounce back to tie it at 3-3, but the Goats would take the final singles battle to earn the win.

"Again we failed to come out on top in the doubles round, but down 3-0 we were still able to tie it," Head Coach Mattias Johansson said. "Despite the loss I am proud of Anderson Ju for stepping up and winning his match and of Gilbert Chung and Andreas Whelan-Merediz who have been delivering for us mach in and match out."

The Goats took all three doubles contests to go up 1-0, and quick wins on courts six and a two would put them just one away from victory.

Three Highlanders would rise to the occasion in a must-win situation as junior Gilbert Chung, junior Anderson Ju, and freshman Andreas Whelan-Merediz all came away with straight set victories to tie the overall match at 3-3.

The match would come down to court one where senior captain Kyle McCann fought in a three set match. McCann edged out his opponent Andrew Ton in the first set, but ultimately fell 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.

UC Riverside will look to bounce back in a Thursday doubleheader with Illinois State and Concordia-Irvine.
