Baseball Travels to New Orleans for Weekend Series vs. Tulane

NEW ORLEANS—In its longest road trip of the season, the UC Riverside Baseball team will travel nearly 2,000 miles to play Tulane in a three-game series. Due to inclement weather on Friday, the series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. PT.

New Orleans is the second city the team is playing in during its streak of 17 straight road games. UCR played four games in San Francisco last weekend against Rider and San Francisco.

Tulane and UCR last played each other in March 2015, with the Highlanders winning two of three games.

The Highlanders have fallen into a bit of a slump. After sweeping Cal Baptist in the Crosstown Showdown, the team has lost five straight games. However, UCR has the starting pitching to turn things around.

Shamus Lyons gets the nod in Game 1. He's 2-2 on the season with a 4.70 ERA. In his previous start against San Francisco, the left-hander allowed three runs on eight hits in five innings for the loss.

Riley Ohl will takes the hill in Game 2. The hard-throwing right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA. In his last start against Rider, Ohl allowed just one run on seven hits in six innings of work for the no decision.

Jeremiah Priddy will start the final game of the series on Sunday and is still looking for his first win. The right-hander is 0-2 on the season with a 4.70 ERA in four starts. He definitely did enough in his last start vs. Rider to earn the win. He tossed a season-high seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. In the zone the entire start, he tossed 97 pitches, 68 for strikes.

UCR's offense is led by senior first baseman Yeager Taylor, who is hitting .302 with one home run and six RBIs. Matt Hardy has been the best power hitter on the team so far this season. He's hitting .250 with two home runs and a team-high 10 RBIs.
