Men's Tennis Splits Friday Doubleheader

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The Highlanders completed a solid home stand Friday afternoon as the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team split a pair of matches topping Quinnipiac 4-3, but falling 4-3 to Azusa Pacific.

"We got another good win for our program in the morning," Head Coach Mattias Johansson said. "Unfortunately fatigue set in later in the day and we couldn't finish the second match. You win some and lose some close battles—that's college tennis. The good thing is our guys are fighting and we have become a tough team for anyone to beat."

QUINNIPIAC
The story fo the first match for the Highlanders would be a doubles triumph followed by immense success from the lower courts in the singles round.

After dropping the first match of the day on court two, the duo of Nabil Abdallah and Gilbert Chung iced the round taking court three 6-3 and the team of Kyle McCann and Andreas Whelan-Merediz gave UCR a 1-0 lead with a 7-6 win on one.

In singles Chung, Whelan Merediz, and Vignesh Subramanyan sealed the match for UCR with three straight set victories on courts three, four, and five, respecitvely. Freshman Whelan-Merediz notched his ninth straight win in the match.

AZUSA PACIFIC
UCR kicked off the second match of the day with the same fire taking the doubles as the same two pairs of Highlanders took identical 6-4 wins to seal the point.

Unforunately, in the singles round, only Chung and Subrmanayan were able to come out with wins as APU took the match 4-3.

Chung downed his court three opponent 6-1, 6-4 to go undefeated on the day and Subrmanayan added his fourth straight winning court six 6-3, 6-1.
