Men's Tennis Notches 20th Win on Final Day of Regular Season

CLAREMONT, Calif.- Saturday marked yet another historical day for the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team, which split a pair of matches on the final day of the regular season. Before dropping a tight match to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 4-3, the Highlanders defeated Pomona-Pitzer  8-1 for their 20th win of the season, a feat that has only been achieved once before by a Big West team (UC Irvine, 2015). With the Big West Championship just a few days away, UCR will have a chance to not only extend its own single season record for wins, but also become the first team in the conference to achieve a 21-win season.

UCR was dominant in its first match at Pomona Pitzer dropping just one doubles match in the nine-point contest, but the nation's top-seeded DIII school in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps got the better of a tired Highlander team that had to travel after foir the second edition of their doubleheader.

Coach Johannson's Take
"We played rather good doubles in both matches today, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to get both W's. We did pick up our 20th win, which only one other team has ever accomplished in the history of the Big West, so that is something our guys should be proud of. We have some answers for next week's tournament and we're looking forward to making life tough for our opponent and seeing how far that takes us."
