RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The weekend series with UC Davis was a tough one for the UC Riverside Softball Team as the Highlanders dropped both games in their Saturday doubleheader. The Aggies held off a Highlander come back in the first game of the day taking it 9-5, before closing out the series and taking game three 11-1.
UCR will now look to bounce back next weekend at Hawaii.
GAME TWO
The Highlanders' pitching efforts were done by way of committee in the first game of the day with junior Jacy Boles earning the start and both junior Haley Marschall and senior Rebecca Faulkner making relief appearances. Faulkner had an impressive outing in her first appearance since March 1st, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing one run on one hit, while collecting two strikeouts.
The Highlander bats got going early as freshman Nadia Witt stepped to the plate and crushed her first career home run to give her team a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies quickly responded adding six in the next three frames.
Down 6-1, the Highlander would rise to the occasion in the fifth inning as senior Brittney Garcia and juniors Emma Ramelot and Melanie Olmos added RBI to cut the lead to 6-5.
Unfortunately, the comeback would fall short for UCR as UC Davis took it 9-5.
GAME THREE
The final game of the series came down to defensive errors that would cost the Highlanders 11 unearned runs as the Aggies took it 11-1 in five innings.
UCR did scatter six hits on the day and found home plate in fourth frame as freshman Sami Demyon drove in freshman Haylee Kela from third on a ball smacked to third base.
Ramelot, Garcia, Olmos, Witt, and Senior Amanda Lynch all added hits in the series finale agianst a tough opponent in Aggie pitcher Brooke Yanez. Ramelot and Kela each notched a double for the Highlanders.
