Softball Bested in Doubleheader at Hawaii

HONOLULU—A tough road trip to the island for the UC Riverside Softball Team came to a close Saturday afternoon as the Highlanders fell in their doubleheader at Hawaii. The Rainbow Wahine claimed the first game of the day 9-1 in five innings, before taking the final game of the series 4-1 in eight.

GAME 2
Despite taking an early lead in the second matchup of the series, the UCR defense could not quiet the Rainbow Wahine bats as UH punched right back in the first frame.

Junior Sarah Parten knocked in the team's sole run of the game in her first at bat doubling down the line to score senior Hannah Rodriguez from third base and give her team a 1-0 lead.

The Bows answered with six of their own in the bottom half and added three in the final innings to take the game in five.

Junior Melanie Olmos made a solid relief appearance, entering in the first and tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. She only surrendered two hits, while striking out a batter. Junior Jacy Boles earned the start and collected the loss falling to 10-7 on the season.

Junior Emma Ramelot and Rodriguez added singles in the game as both went 1-for-2.

GAME 3
The final game of the series proved to be a true pitchers' duel that would go an extra inning as Boles pitched a gritty bounce-back game and took a no-hitter into the fourth inning. The junior would go 7.1 innings and through seven only allowed two hits and one earned run, while striking out six.

On the offensive end freshman Sami Demyon had herself a day, on her birthday no less, going 3-for-3 with the sole RBI on the day scoring Olmos from third on a single through the left side.

Boles kept the Bows silenced for most of the game, but despite collecting 10 hits, her offense could not provide her run support.

UH would find the game winning runs in the bottom of the eighth to end the series on top.
