Lyons Pitches Baseball Past Fullerton

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Junior Shamus Lyons had his best performance of the season as he went six strong innings leading the UC Riverside Baseball team to an 8-3 win over Cal State Fullerton. Lyons' outing gave the Highlanders their sixth Big West win of the season.
 
Senior Dean Miller put the Highlanders on the board as he hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to score two runs. Miller finished with two hits on the day and had two hits in all three games of the series. He also has multi-hits in nine out of his last ten games.
 
The fifth and sixth innings is where Riverside created the separation as they scored five out of their eight runs.
 
In the fifth, freshman Jacob Shanks doubled to score senior Yeager Taylor. Senior Matt Hardy followed up with a single of his own to score Taylor to give the Highlanders a 5-2 lead.
 
The following inning had more of the same, sophomore Dylan Orick hit a two-run double to give the team a 7-2 lead.
 
Sophomore Nathan Webb and Orick both finished with two hits and scored twice. Taylor had two hits on the day and finished with eight hits in the series.
 
Juniors Hayden Petrovick and Riley Ohl both pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the lead for the Highlanders.
 
Riverside plays at The Plex on Tuesday vs. Grand Canyon.
