Baseball Downed in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UC Riverside Baseball team struggled to get runners on base on Friday as they fell to Long Beach State 6-1. The Dirtbags held the lead for the whole game and the Highlanders were unable to mount a comeback.

The Highlanders weren't able to capitalize on Long Beach's three errors on the night. The team had five two-out hits but weren't able to get those runners across home plate.

Senior Dean Miller provided the only offense for Riverside as he hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning. Miller finished the game with three hits including the home run.

The reigning three-time Big West Player of the Week junior Connor Cannon pitched in with two hits of his own while also getting a walk.

Junior Kevin West pitched two scoreless innings of relief to close out the game for the Highlanders. The team also received scoreless innings from freshman Trevor Bateson and senior Jared Noonan.

The Highlanders look to bounce back tomorrow and take game two of the series versus the Dirtbags. The game begins at 1:00 p.m.
