Offensive Struggles Continue for Baseball

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The hot bats of last weekend came to an end this weekend as the UC Riverside Baseball team finished the week with a 3-1 loss on Sunday to Long Beach State. After winning two out of three versus the top team in the Big West, the Highlanders struggled with the Dirtbags.

Although the bats and gloves weren't at their peak on Sunday, the pitching staff showed their promise as the combined effort only allowed one earned run on the day. Freshman Trevor Bateson pitched four solid innings while striking out three without allowing an earned run.

Juniors Kevin West and Riley Ohl both pitched an inning of scoreless relief while striking out two batters each.

Freshman Andre Granillo pitched another scoreless inning with a strikeout. This scoreless inning stretched Granillo's streak to eight straight appearances without allowing a single run over 10 2/3 innings. He has dropped his ERA over 3 runs during the streak.

The Highlanders look to bounce back as they come back to The Plex in a series versus Fullerton next weekend.
