RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Junior Connor Cannon continues to rake in the awards this year as he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I West Region First Team. Cannon was the only Big West player on the First Team as he earned the honor in at the Designated Hitter position.
The ABCA is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Â
It has been a great past couple of weeks for Cannon as he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the MLB Draft last week and was named to the Big West Conference First Team honors the week before that. The Riverside native was a big power source for the Highlanders this year as he led the Big West and set the UCR school record for home runs in a season with 18.
Â
Cannon also became the first player in conference history to win three straight field player-of-the-week awards. It was a streak that saw him hit 10 home runs over an 11-game span and catapulted him to the top of the leaderboards. During that streak, he also broke the school's career record for home runs as he finished with 36.
Â
He finished the season with a hitting slash line of .319/.426/.660 while driving in 44 runs and walking 27 times.
