1/23/2020 11:15:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Presented by Altura Credit Union
San Luis Obispo, Calif. — The UC Riverside Women's Basketball team got double figures from three players for the second consecutive game in Big West play, but fell 75-70 at Cal Poly due to cold-shooting in the final three minutes of play.Â
Â
Jannon Otto led the way for the Highlanders with 17 points, six rebounds. Keilanei Cooper had 15 points to go with her game-high nine rebounds, while Marina Ewodo added 16 points to the UC Riverside (6-12, 2-2) cause.Â
Â
The Highlanders were in full control in the first half thanks to shooting 54% from the field, including 5-7 from three point range. They took a 38-30 advantage over Cal Poly (xx-xx, x-x) to the locker room after 20 minutes were played.Â
Â
Coming into the game, the Highlanders were leading the Big West with a .742 team free-throw percentage for the season, however, they uncharacteristically went 7-14 from the charity stripe in the first half.Â
Â
The second half was played at close range with UCR maintaining a single-digit lead for the majority of it.Â
Â
With 2:40 to play in the fourth, the Highlanders led 70-66, when Cal Poly's Abby Ellis and Sierra Campisano combined to score the final nine points of the game to give the Mustangs a 75-70 victory.
Â
UC Riverside missed all three shots they took and committed turnovers on their other two possessions in the final stretch. They did finish 8-12 from long distance, finishing the game with their best three-point field goal percentage in any game this season.Â
Â
Ellis finished with a game-high 37 points and Campisona had 20 to go with eight boards.Â
Â
"We've got to be more consistent. We had some success shooting the three, but lost our touch at the line. To win on the road, you have to do the little things right." said Head Coach Seyram Bell.
Â
Looking Forward
Â
The team returns to the friendly confines of the SRC Arena Saturday, January 25th at 5pm, when they complete the season series against Hawai'i.
