Ewodo and Otto Post Double-doubles In Loss To UC Irvine

Riverside, Calif. — For the third straight game, UC Riverside senior forward Marina Ewodo posted a double-double. Even though fellow senior Jannon Otto also posted a double-double, it was not enough to get past UC Irvine at home as the Highlanders fell, 77-53.Â

Ewodo finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds to go with three steals and three blocks. Otto, who came into the game needing 15 points to reach the 1,000 point mark at UCR. She finished with 13 points and also grabbed down 12 boards.

UC Riverside (6-15, 2-5) suffered from cold-shooting throughout the game as their best shooting quarter (37%) was the third, when UC Irvine (6-15, 2-5) also found its touch. In the game's highest scoring period, the 'Eaters shot 50 percent (9-18) from the field to outscore the Highlanders 22-15 and extend their to 19 entering the fourth, 60-41.

UCR nearly cut their turnovers in half with 14 compared to Thursday's game when they had 27 miscues. "We did take care of the ball better today, however, we rushed a lot of shots on the offense end." said Head Coach Seyram Bell.Â

UC Irvine scored the first basket of the final frame to push their lead to 21 as UCR would get no closer before the finished, 77-53.

Keilanei Cooper scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds to round out the Highlander trio of players in double figures.Â
