Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of California, Riverside Highlanders women's tennis team capped off a busy week of home matches taking a 5-2 win against Youngstown State.
The Highlanders went to work and quickly swept doubles to get the point, boosting UCR's confidence heading into singles. Tia Elpusan and Sara Khattab won #1 singles 6-2, followed by Lindsey Gelinas and Lauren Wolfe in the #2 spot winning with the same score of 6-2. Mahli Silpachai and Hanh Pham took the #3 flight of doubles 6-1.
Only Silpachai and Pham would drop their singles flights, with Silpachai retiring in the #1 flight and Pham dropping the #4 flight 6-3, 6-3. Tia Elpusan played great, taking a dominant win in the #2 singles spot 6-2, 6-1.
Coach Mark Henry commented, "Nice job by all three doubles teams getting off to a quick start. Incredible week of singles matches for Tia Elpusan, going 4-0. She was one game away from 5-0, as she was up 5-2 in the third set when Utah State clinched."
The Highlanders will continue their series of home matches hosting Bucknell University on Thursday at 1:30 PM.
