FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Playing in tougher conditions Tuesday at Ptarmigan Country Club, where temperatures struggled to reach the 50s in a northerly breeze, UC Riverside fell back two spots from where it left off in darkness Monday night to conclude 54 holes in 8th place at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
Kate Villegas rose from 33rd to a tie for 19th (+7) over her final 19 holes, shooting a 2-over 74, with her three bogies the fewest for UCR in Tuesday's action. Next into the clubhouse was
Vanessa Betancourt, who shot a78 Tuesday and ended up in tie for 26th, followed by
Tiffany Le (82, T41),
Mylan Hirata (79, T44) and
Nicole Le (87, T69).
The 15-team event on the Par 72, 6,468-yard course saw Cal Poly emerge as the team winner after the completion of three rounds (292-293-291 – 876 [+12]). Ellen Nicholas from Incarnate Word was the individual champion, ending 4-under after 54 holes (69-71-72 – 212)
The Highlanders go right back to work in the classroom and on the golf course, as UC Riverside returns to campus before traveling to Las Vegas to compete in the Battle at Boulder Creek, hosted on Oct. 25-26 by UNLV. Follow the action on Golfstat.
