LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The UC Riverside Highlanders opened play at Spanish Trail Country Club with a team score of 303 (+15) to sit tied for fifth place after the first round of the Big West Championship Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Janna Andaya shot a clean 72 (E) with birdies on holes 7,11, and 17, going even to open the tournament
• Gabrielle Kiger followed with a 76 (+4), highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 10th.
• Mitzi Duarte posted a 77 (+5), bouncing back after a double bogey on hole 16 with a strong par finish.
• Maleyna Gregorio turned in a 78 (+6) closing the first round with 11 pars.
• Sophia Luna rounded out the lineup with an 81 (+9).
