SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Highlanders turned in a steady performance at the San Diego State Classic, finishing ninth with a team total of 899 at Bernardo Heights Country Club.
The Highlanders posted rounds of 299, 293 and 307, highlighted by a strong second round that featured one of the team's lowest scores of the tournament. Competing against a deep field that included multiple West Coast programs, UC Riverside continued to gain valuable experience early in the spring season.
Mitzi Duarte led the Highlanders, placing 20th at 4-over-par 220. Duarte opened the tournament with a 2-under 70 and followed with an even-par 72 in round two to pace the lineup.
Janna Andaya finished close behind, tying for 37th at 11-over 227 after opening with an even-par 72. Maleyna Gregorio tied for 41st at 12-over 228, while Ivy Kim added a tie for 43rd at 13-over 229, highlighted by a 1-under 71 in the second round.
CSU Fullerton claimed the team title at 852, while Katharina Zeilinger earned individual medalist honors at 9-under 207.
The Highlanders head to Palm Desert this weekend to compete in the Alice and John Wallace Women's Golf Classic beginning Saturday, February 14th.
