FULLERTON, Calif. – The Highlanders took the opening set but were defeated in four Saturday by Cal State Fullerton, 25-21, 19-25, 15-25, 19-25, in Titan Gym.
Isabella Scarlett and
Amarachi Osuji put together some impressive front-line stats – with 29.5 points combined on 10 and 16 kills, respectively – but after taking the opening set with the kind of marathon determination that brought UC Riverside (5-15, 1-9 Big West) its first win ever at Long Beach the night before, the Highlanders could not sustain the same intensity as the Titans (8-9, 5-5 Big West) took the next three sets and the match.
Saturday was an opportunity for UC Riverside to earn a program first with two true conference road wins back-to-back, having won seven of their previous 10 meetings with Fullerton, but it was not to be. The Highlanders remain on the road for two more matches, visiting UC Davis Tuesday at 7 p.m. before heading to Hawaii for a 10 p.m. PST start on Saturday, Oct. 30.
