UCR Tied for 3rd at Clash at Boulder Creek After Round 1

BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Vanessa Betancourt is tied for 9th and UC Riverside is tied for third at +5 after 18 holes Sunday at the Desert Hawk/Coyote Run at Boulder Creek Golf Club, where the entire Highlander lineup ended day one in the top 25 going into Round 2 Monday at The Clash at Boulder Creek hosted by Northern Arizona University.

"Proud of the girls for getting out of the gate earlier than we have in our first two events," said head coach Mary Ritchie, whose team leads the field in pars after Round 1. "We know conditions are likely going to get harder over the next two rounds and so we came out ready to go this morning."

Betancourt was joined at 1-under at the turn by Tiffany Le and finished her round even, while Le endured two double bogies on her back nine to come into the clubhouse at +2. Tiffany's round of 74 was matched by teammates Mylan Hirata and Kate Villegas, all tied for 25th, while sister Nicole Le ended in a tie for 19th at 1-over.

The University of San Francisco leads the event after Round 1 at 2-under. Madelaine Laux of UNLV is 4-under to lead all individuals.
