UCR Hosts CSUB, Carranza’s Pair of Goals Fall Short In 3-2 Double Overtime

Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders returned home after a two-game stretch on the road to host the California State University Bakersfield (CSUB) Roadrunners in the penultimate game of the regular season.

The Roadrunners got on the board first in the 29th minute with a header goal after a scuffle in the box off a corner kick, putting CSUB ahead 1-0.

Less than five minutes later at 32', Alyssa Carranza answered back and knotted the score 1-1 with her first goal of the season off an assist from Lindsey Turner.

CSUB squeezed one more goal in before half time, sending UC Riverside into the locker room trailing the Roadrunners 2-1.

Carranza took it upon herself in the 51st minute to level the game once more, scoring her second goal of the day and season off of ricocheted ball from a blocked shot attempted by teammate Alexandra Hargrave.

Despite Carranza's pair of goals and a team total for UCR of sixteen shots, eight on goal, the Roadrunners scored the golden goal in the second overtime period to win the game 3-2.

The Highlander's next game is their final game of the season on Sunday, October 31 at 2:00 PM against Cal State Fullerton. The Highlanders will host at the UCR Soccer Stadium and celebrate senior day before kick off.
