
Five Highlanders Earn All-Big West Recognition

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Five men's soccer student-athletes earned postseason All-Big West honors, the conference announced on Friday.Â
UCR collected its most all-conference honors since 2016, earning five that year also. This is the fourth season in the program's Division I history with at least five all-conference honors and third since 2016.
Freymar Omarsson and Oscar Penate earned First Team honors. Penate ranked in the top 10 in the conference with a team-high five goals, 12 points and 0.75 points per game in his first season after transferring to UCR. Omarsson started all 19 games for the Highlanders with two goals and two assists.Â
Leopoldo Hernandez was named to the Second Team after starting all 18 matches in his first season in Riverside. Hernandez's four goals on the year included two game winners, including the winner in the Highlanders' 1-0 win at Cal Poly in the first round of the Big West Championships.Â
Jonick Pineda was named Honorable Mention with a team-high five goals to match Penate. Three of Pineda's five goals came in the last six games, including a goal in the Big West Semifinals at UC Irvine.Â
Carlos Gonzalez rounded out the program's honorees with an All-Freshman selection. Gonzalez recorded five shutouts on the season with a .722 save percentage and a 1.20 goals against average.Â
