BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Highlanders took the opening set from CSU Bakersfield but could not get past 22 points over the next three to fall in four sets to the Roadrunners, 25-23, 22-25, 19,25, 20-25, Friday at The Icardo Center.
Anya Green had 3 blocks and hit .611, with 12 kills on 18 swings;
Kenzy Militar had a career-high 3 service aces;
Isabella Scarlette had 4 blocks; and
Amarachi Osuji had 4 block and a double-double on 17 kills and 12 blocks for UC Riverside (6-19, 2-13 Big West). The Highlanders were unable to pull out enough of the many long rallies to take Bakersfield (16-7, 9-6 Big West) to a fifth set on the road as the Roadrunners won their second in a row and seventh match in their last 10 outings.
The Highlanders' four-match road trip continues immediately on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cal Poly, followed by a visit to CSUN Friday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., with another immediate turnaround to play at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.
The return to SRC Arena for UC Riverside is a Thanksgiving Eve meeting Wednesday night, Nov. 24, vs. Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. before the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 27, with a 5 p.m. scheduled first serve at home against Long Beach State.
