Justin Johnson Named Head Baseball Coach

After one year in the interim position, Johnson received a promotion to permanently lead the Highlanders going forward
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - After former UC Riverside Baseball head coach, former Highlander pitching star and Major League Baseball pitching legend, Troy Percival, announced his resignation as head coach of the Highlanders around this time last year, Justin Johnson was announced as the Interim Head Coach.
It was announced this week that Johnson would drop the "interim" and hold the title permanently going forward.
"I'm both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to be the head coach at UCR," Johnson said. "I want to thank Wes Mallette and Chancellor Kim Wilcox for believing in me and giving me this opportunity."

Athletics Director Wes Mallette commented on the announcement, saying, "I am incredibly proud of Justin Johnson and the way he has led our baseball team through an incredibly challenging year. His ability to build great culture, his attention to detail, and his focus on develop our student-athletes and building our program has been outstanding. He is consistent and does things the right way every day and we are excited for him to lead UCR Baseball forward."
Johnson looked ahead, stating, "I'm most excited about having the opportunity to continue to coach and develop these young men on and off the field." Johnson continued, getting straight to the point, "We plan on building a winning culture and competing for Big West championships."
