UC Riverside Track & Field Opens Season at Ben Brown Invitational
FULLERTON, Calif. - It's been 371 days since the last time the University of California, Riverside Track & Field team toed the line, turned in the circle and took to the runway of competition.  That ends today.  The Highlanders will head down the 91 to compete in the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.  The squad will be taking a limited number of student-athletes and will be competing in five different events.
Â
Starting the meet off for UCR will be Shiloh Corrales-Nelson who will start the season for the Highlanders with the women's hammer throw at 12:00PM.  She will return to throw the shot at 3:00 PM.  In the evening portion of the meet, Freshman Andrew Jackson will make his UC Riverside debut at 800m at 5:45 PM.  The men's and women's 5000m races will round out the evening for the Highlanders, led by sixth year senior and All-Conference Cross Country athlete Arman Irani. Â
Â
"We are excited to get back to action after such an extended "break," mentioned Director of Track & Field, Nate Browne. "The wait has been difficult, but this meet will serve as a reward for those who were most diligent during the time away.  We have a lot of freshman and redshirt freshman who will be making their Highlander debuts," he continued.
Â
When asked about his expectations, distance coach Rob Hansen has this to say, "We've got a brand new uniform, a brand new season, and a lot of brand new runners making their debuts tonight; this is a huge turning point in our culture and I can't wait to see what our group does with this first opportunity".
