Highlanders Head to Big West Championship

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Ready to represent at the conference tournament, UC Riverside competes Sunday-Tuesday at the 2021 Big West Men's Golf Championship at La Quinta Country Club.

The par-72 course, which will play at just under 7,000 yards for Round 1, is the site of 18 holes of competition per day for three rounds. Seeded No. 9, the Highlanders are paired for Round 1 with No. 7 UC Santa Barbara and No. Hawai'i, and will tee off starting at 12:10 p.m. No spectators are permitted at the event due to COVID-19 protocols.

Monday's Round 2 is schedule to send the Highlanders into action beginning at 10:30 a.m. The tournament concludes Tuesday with the Highlanders starting their Round 3 on the back nine beginning at 8:10 a.m.

Last Time at the Big West
The last time the Big West Championship took place was in 2019 in Hawaii, where the Highlanders finished 8th at rainswept Wailua Golf Course in Lihue. Then-sophomore Sam He had the fourth-best par 4 scoring in the tournament, shooting +4 on par 4 holes for the three rounds. He is the only Highlanders with previous experience with UCR at the Big West.

Highlander History at the Big West
The Highlanders have six top-5 finishes in program history at the Big West, including two first-place championships in 2006 and 2016. The second conference crown came at the end of head coach Rick Todd's first year at the helm, culminating with Todd honored as Big West Coach of the Year.
