RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Adrian Meade-Tatum and Carlos Gonzalez have been named Freshman of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, by the Big West Conference.Â
Gonzalez marks the second UCR Defensive Player of the Week award to come from a goalkeeper in the past two seasons, when Edwyn Gutierrez took the honor in September of 2019.
Meade-Tatum recorded a brace in 15 minutes of action off the bench in the Highlanders' season-opening 3-0 win over Niagara on Thursday, while Gonzalez conceded just one goal against 18 shots faced and holds an .857 goals against average. The freshman made five saves in his collegiate debut on Thursday.
Meade-Tatum, a freshman from Palos Verdes, also contributed 26 minutes on Sunday in a back line that allowed just seven shots to Canisius, including none in extra time. Gonzalez has played all 189 minutes of UCR's season so far in his first season in net.Â
The Highlanders are back in action on Friday, September 3 with a 6:00 p.m. PT kickoff at San Diego.Â
