TUCSON, Ariz. – Ready to return to SRC Arena with its 2-0 home record at SRC Arena to start conference play, UC Riverside exited the Wildcat Classic Saturday with a straight-set loss to San Diego State, finishing the event host by Arizona at the McKale Center at 1-2.
The Highlanders (4-6, 0-0 Big West) got powerful play from opposite hitter
Ayanna Kimbrough, who had 8 kills against the Aztecs (3-9, 0-0 MWC) to finish the weekend with 30 kills and a .373 attacking percentage over three matches at the Wildcat Classic, highlighted by 16 kills and a .609 percentage in the second match of UCR's weekend vs. Texas Southern.
Saturday's meeting with the Aztecs was the final regular-season nonconference match on UCR's schedule. Tuesday, UC Riverside returns home to host the Big West Conference opener vs. UC Davis followed by Hawai'i Thursday, both matches beginning at 7 p.m.
The Highlanders are unbeaten at SRC Arena in 2021, having defeated Southern Utah and New Orleans at home Sept. 10-11 at the UC Riverside Classic.
