Highlanders Drop Big West Action to the Beach

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -Â UC Riverside dropped a competitive Big West matchup to Long Beach State on Friday afternoon at the SRC Tennis Courts, falling 4-0 to the Beach.Â
The Highlanders picked up their competitive nature during singles play after a cold stretch in doubles, particularly in the middle courts.  Natalie Shamma battled back from a first-set loss to take a 6-4 second set and tie her match on court 3 before her match was abandoned. Sofia Lazzaroni won her first set 6-4 on court four next to Shamma and was in a battle in set two with a 2-4 score.Â
On six, Niki Shahbazi stayed close behind her opponent before dropping the first set and ending her match down 2-5 in the second set.Â
UCR will hit the road for the first time since January, traveling to UC Irvine on Sunday, February 20. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
