PHOENIX, Ariz. - Tiffany Le shot a 5-under 67 in round one on Monday and currently sits atop the leaderboard, as UC Riverside closed out day one of the GCU Spring Invitational tied for fourth with Northern Arizona at 290-294-584 after two rounds of play.
UCR is playing in the event for the fourth straight season and is on pace to have at least one top-25 individual finisher for the fourth consecutive year.
Le is one of three Highlanders in the top 40, joining Kate Villegas (T12) and Mylan Hirata (T39). Le cleaned up on the front nine in round one with six pars and three birdies, then replicated her performance after making the turn with seven pars and two birdies on the back nine. Her 67 is the Highlanders' second at the event in as many years after Villegas shot a 67 in round three of last year's tournament.
Le finished day one carding 67-72-139, two strokes over the program record.
Villegas, who tied for eighth at last year's event, shot for par on eight of nine holes on both the front and back nine in round one. The sophomore recorded five birdies in round two, including four on the front nine, while Le shot for par on 16 of the 18 holes in round two.
UCR will play the final 18 holes of the tournament on Tuesday.
