Highlanders Score Midweek Win Against LMU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Joey Nicolai and Dylan Orick both recorded their seventh multi-hit games of the season on Tuesday night at the Riverside Sports Complex as UC Riverside downed Loyola Marymount 3-1.

UCR held an opponent to a season-low single run in Tuesday's non-conference tilt behind a combined nine-strikeout effort. The night started with three strong innings from starting pitcher Tyler Frazier, who accounted for five of the Highlanders' nine punchouts.

"I'm proud of the guys' performance tonight," head coach Justin Johnson said. "It feels great to get the win. We came out strong and stayed focused in the later stages of the game when we were called upon. Tonight is good momentum heading back into Big West play this weekend."

Caleb Turner earned his first collegiate win on the hill and Kyle Anderson was tabbed with the save after coming in for Joey Magrisi in the ninth inning. Magrisi shut the door in the top of the eighth after the Lions threatened down two with runners on the corners.

As part of his seventh multi-hit game of the season, Orick roped a two-run RBI double to center in the fourth inning before scoring later in the frame on a wild pitch. The fifth-year senior also led off the sixth with a double to right after a five-pitch at-bat.

UC Riverside returns to Big West play this weekend on Friday, April 1 with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch against UC Davis at the Riverside Sports Complex on ESPN+.
