LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC Riverside men's tennis fell 5-2 at UC San DIego on Monday, despite Daniel Velek's victories in doubles and singles.

Velek teamed up with Nolan McCaig for the second time in as many matches, with the duo improving to 2-0 on the year with a 6-4 win on court one. Velek followed that up with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court three in singles. 

Antreas Djakouris picked up UCR's other singles victory, a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 win on one. Andreas Whelan-Merediz battled on six and evened his match in court three before falling 10-6 in set three. 

The Highlanders will begin a four-match homestand on Wednesday, March 9 when they host Utah State at 10:00 a.m.
