Highlanders Down Cal Poly for Series Finale Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside baseball finished a three-game series with Cal Poly with an 8-3 win on Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex.

UCR's late game push from Saturday's game two carried out of the gate in Sunday's matinee finale. Jacob Badawi singled to right center for a leadoff hit on a five-pitch at bat, but Andrew Rivas wasted no time with a 0-1 triple to bring Badawi home from 270 feet. Dylan Orick grounded out to second to clear the bases and bring Rivas home for an early 2-0 lead.

Badawi logged his third three-hit game of the season, while Orick recorded his 10th multi-hit game of the season after back-to-back two-hit games in the final two games against the Mustangs.

Consistent run production was the key to salvaging a win against the Mustangs on Sunday, with runs in five of the first six innings and two spots in three of the first four. Badawi played a major role in the win for the HIghlanders, going 3 fo 4 with two runs, three RBIs and a walk.

Taylor Juline also drove in three runs on Sunday, going 2 for 3 on the afternoon with a walk. Sunday was the first game of the season with two Highlanders logging three RBIs apiece.

After a four-game week that included Wednesday's win over Utah Valley, Sunday made it two games this week with at least 10 hits. UCR also finished a 2-2 week with two or more doubles in all four games.

UC Riverside now starts a seven-game road stretch at LMU on Tuesday before a three-game series this coming weekend at UC San Diego. All three games against the Tritons will be live streamed on ESPN+.
