LOS ANGELES - UC Riverside kicked off the 2023 season at the LMU Tennis Center on Wednesday, January 18 with a 5-2 defeat to LMU. 

The Highlanders wasted no time out of the gate, picking up their first doubles point of the season. The Lions took the 1-0 lead on court three, but Joshua Roth and Antreas Djakouris claimed a 6-2 win on one beofre Daniel Velek and Ryan Huynh secured the point with a hard-fought 6-4 win on two. 

Justin Lamy paired with Aarav Sane and dropped a 6-0 decision on three, but Lamy came back to claim the Highlanders' lone singles match with a 6-4, 6-4 win on five. Djakouris took set one, 6-3, on court one before conceding. 

The Highlanders are right back at it on Thursday, January 19 for the home opener against Sacramento State at 9:00 a.m. sharp from the SRC Tennis Courts.
