LAS VEGAS – UC Riverside went 1-1 on its first day in Las Vegas on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Center, downing New Mexico State 4-3 before falling 4-0 to Hawaii. The morning win over the Aggies made it back-to-back victories for just the third time since 2020. 

UCR took two of three doubles matches to secure the first point of the afternoon with wins going to Joshua Roth/Antreas Djakouris and Justin Lamy/Aarav Sane. Lamy gave the Highlanders the edge in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court one before New Mexico State bounced back with wins on three and four. UCR and the Aggies split the next two singles courts as the match progressed to a 3-3 tie after Daniel Velek's 7-5, 6-1 win on two. Sane saved four match points for UC Riverside, including three in his second set en route to a clinching 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(7) win on court six. 

The Highlanders later dropped a 4-0 decision to Hawaii in the back end of the two-match day. 

UCR is back to work on Saturday, January 28 in Las Vegas with matches against Weber State at 10:00 a.m. and host UNLV at 2:00 p.m.
