Highlanders Fall to Mustang Hat Trick 3-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - UC Riverside dropped a 3-1 contest on Sunday on the road at Mustang Memorial Field in an afternoon bout hosted by the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cal Poly scored their first goal off their first shot of the day in the seventh minute of the first half.
  • The same Mustang found the net again in the 30th minute of play, putting UCR behind 2-0. 
  • Braelynn Llamoca scored her second goal of the season, converting a penalty kick in the 44' to put the Highlanders on the board, cutting the Mustangs deficit in half, 2-1.
  • Annika Smith, already with a brace in the first half, scored her third goal for a Mustang hat trick in the 47'
  • UC Riverside offense was stifled in the second half of the game by the Mustang's defensive line, as they were unable to get a shot off in the final 45'.
